ABOUT US

Ahwah Energy

(Ahwah translates to ‘Earth’ from Hidatsa)

Is a Mandaree-based resource development company specializing in providing high-quality and locally sourced frac sand to North Dakota’s oil and gas industry. Founded and helmed by Jason Baker (M.S. Civil Engineering, 2008, NDSU), the highly respected entrepreneur who also runs Baker Consulting LLC, Ahwah Energy extracts sand in an environmentally sustainable manner, processes it at in-field processing sites in western ND, and then transports the 100-mesh standard sand directly to where it is required.

Both Baker Consulting and Ahwah Energy are registered as Certified Indian Companies (Tier 1) by the Tribal Employment Rights Office of the Three Affiliated Tribes. Mr. Baker is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes and grew up in Mandaree.
Ahwah Energy plays a pivotal role in the current and future well-being of local communities, the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation (FBIR) and North Dakota as a whole. As a Tier-1 enterprise, Ahwah has more flexibility to harvest, process, and sell the sand resource in areas restricted to out-of-state contractors.
Similarly, Ahwah has access to potential development sites on FBIR land and has shown a commitment to fostering employment and contracting opportunities for the MHA (Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara) nation.
And, as a North Dakota-based enterprise, salaries and profits generated stay in-state, local and state taxes are paid to help fund much-needed social and infrastructure initiatives and the intellectual property created helps North Dakota maintain its global lead in energy production.
Ahwah Energy is committed to responsible Environmental, Social and Governance policies. Processing locally sourced frac sand closer to the well-head reduces the environmental footprint of the Oil and Gas Industry and promotes the revitalization of farm/ranch land impacted by crop-resistant sand deposits. Ahwah Energy’s deep roots in the very fabric of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation guides their decision-making for optimal community benefit.
And, as befits an engineering-based enterprise, responsible governance is based on economic realities, careful planning and hands-on project management by highly-experienced professionals.

ENVIRONMENTAL,
SOCIAL, AND GOVERNANCE

The environment, social responsibility and effective governance are deeply ingrained within our cultural heritage.

Indeed, these three tenets coalesce to guide us towards a safe and sustainable future in our ancestral homeland. Ahwah Energy is committed to transferring our traditional values to a modern, successful, and responsible enterprise.

Environment

Ahwah Energy’s very existence is predicated on renewable, sustainable, and responsible utilization of our natural resources. We have developed a low-carbon footprint business model that reduces the impact of long-haul transport, increases the efficiency of the Bakken-based Oil and Gas industry, and restores grasslands impacted by sand encroachment.
We incorporate environmentally responsible management. We take advantage of technology solutions such as GIS (geographic information systems) to plan for sustainable development and monitor impacts and network analysis tools to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Our focus on the environment creates a workplace that respects our land and resources. We subscribe to recognized best-practices to reduce waste, recycle where possible and conserve energy. These workplace habits transfer to families and our communities and ensure that we can all enjoy a clean and healthy future.

Social

Ahwah Energy is locally owned and operated. We are committed to be an agent of positive change in the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation by providing employment opportunities, increasing skill sets for staff and their families and building a program of corporate ‘best practices’ to guide future initiatives.
Professional and personal development are critical to our pathway forward. We not only train staff for their jobs but encourage cross-education to further their knowledge base.
We are dedicated to a safe and secure workspace. We operate in accordance with all relevant State and Federal job site regulations and perform self-audits for compliance on a regular basis. In addition, we promote healthy lifestyle choices for staff and their families in order to ensure that our community will thrive into the future.
We are forward-thinking. We are constantly improving our business processes to streamline operations, expand services and ensure client and staff satisfaction. The intellectual property that we develop is essential to maintain our competitive advantage and ensure continued investment into our community.

Governance

Ahwah Energy is a Limited Liability Company chartered with the North Dakota Secretary of State. Ahwah Energy is officially registered as a Certified Indian Company (Tier 1) by the Tribal Employment Rights Office of the Three Affiliated Tribes.
Ahwah Energy is committed to sound financial management. This ensures that we operate in a manner that benefits the local economy and provides employment opportunities for the wider FBIR community.
We strive for transparency in our financial and operational management. To that end, we employ the most appropriate digital tools to monitor network activity, protect privacy and ensure compliance under various governmental requirements.
We are dedicated to community participation in our decision-making processes. The on-going Bakken Oil and Gas development has had significant impact on the FBIR community. We value the input of our tribal elders and seek out traditional knowledge to help our organization adapt to shifting economic and social frameworks.
